Notes: Try using less the apple juice, since the apple butter is super sweet and the apple juice gives it a one-note flavor.
Slow Cooker Apple Sauce
You can make homemade applesauce using this simple guide.
Servings: ~4 tbsp applesauce per cup of fresh apples
Ingredients
2 apples (~3.25 cups)
4 tsp pumpkin pie spice
Instructions
1. Slice apples.
2. Cook in slow cooker on high for 4 hours (covered).
3. Blend apples. (Do not skip this step. Otherwise, the skin will be tough. Also, it is difficult to blend the applesauce after it reduces.)3
4. Return to slow cooker. Cook uncovered for upto 2.5 hours. (The original recipe only called for 45-75 minutes.)
5. Add pumpkin pie spice.

Notes: I used half tart and half sweet apples. Next time, I would increase the proportion of sweet apples. I tried seasoning it with just a cinnamon stick, but that did not add much flavor on its own.
